Sponsor an AFSer

Hi- My name is Farrah Hsu and I am a 15 year old Taiwanese American currently living in California. I am a sophomore at Rancho Cucamonga High School and am active in many different activities, sports, and band. I am an all honors student and president of the techno club at my school, where we introduce techno music and spread the art of glowsticking.

This year, I have applied and have been selected for the 2009 Japan Year Program. It has been an honor being selected as an exchange student to my host country and I hope to represent my country well. My motivation for applying for an AFS program was to be able to travel to a different place to explore the culture and environment. From my point of view, the best way to learn is being able to experience a different culture firsthand. I am looking forward to this wonderful opportunity and am excited for the upcoming future!

As AFS exchange students are considered to be ambassadors of their countries while abroad, I understand that this is an important role that cannot be taken lightly. Not only would I be representing my country, but also my community, culture, and my family. I am prepared to adjust and adapt to my host country while being able to bring the best of my country and my culture in return.

In an attempt to raise money, I have tried many options such as: tutoring, babysitting, asking for sponsors, and working as a balloon animal artist for various parties, fairs, and celebrations. I have also been awarded by the Global Leaders Committee financial aid to help meet my tuition obligation. I am determined to raise the rest of the funds necessary for my upcoming AFS program.
